Quebec land transfer tax, also known as welcome tax, is paid by the buyer of a property and is calculated based on the highest taxable amount between the purchase price, the consideration stated in the deed of sale, or the value on the assessment roll adjusted by the municipal comparative factor.
Once this base is determined, the amount is established according to the progressive brackets in effect (0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% for 2025), with the possibility that some municipalities may apply a higher rate for the portion exceeding $500,000.
